“Attitude is everything” debate

Today the FFD Reading group who have been working with Suzanne this term held a debate about the concept “Attitude is Everything”

Caitlin, Vaishnavi and Aimen argued that Attitude is everything and Nicholas, Eli and Jack M argued that Attitude is not everything.  The teams were assessed on four areas: presentation, content, rebuttal and crowd response.

We are learning to persuade and we have also been learning about how static images or posters use techniques to convey a message.  This learning intention was tells us how to create an effective static image.

Here are some examples!

Caitlin, Jack M, Vaishnavi and Nicholas led our class in a discussion on Friday about ‘What makes success?”
We thought that success is when you:

  • achieve a goal
  • come 1st, 2nd, 3rd in a race

Then they asked us to think about who is successful?  We came up with:

  • John Key
  • Justin Beiber
  • Michael Jackson
  • Sir Edmond Hilary
  • Michael J Fox
  • Jaedyn’s Uncle who is a helicopter pilot

This made us question do you have to be famous to be successful?

So we looked at these people and we looked at these things and Nicholas asked us “So what are the characteristics of a successful person?” (Fantastic question, I thought!).   We came up with:

A successful person is someone who:

  • Has a dream
  • Sets goals
  • Is persistent/shows persistence
  • Shows courage
  • Puts in a lot of effort and practice
  • Shows spirit and determination
  • Fails forward/learns from mistakes

This means we are going to test our criteria (hypothesis) over a range of people to either confirm our criteria or to add to it.  We had our first visitor today.

Jack, Eli and Nic’s Reading Sample

We have been working through the final stages of our Reading Contracts and this week we’ve been able to finish off a few. The task for the Tele’s and The PRS’s was to evaluate the Timber Industry and create something that demonstrates your understanding. We’ve created posters, movies, keynotes and boardgames. There has been a lot of thinking and planning behind the final product. So enjoy Jack M, Eli and Nicholas’ Movie and Glog:
