Worm Farm

We have been reading about how to make a worm farm in this book. We went to have a look at our worm farm by the compost bins. We laughed at the worm wee!

We are wondering what the worm wee does for our garden and if we can get the worm farm up and going again? We had an idea to have a competition for the classes at RSS to collect the most scraps.

SMART Goals

We are learning to write SMART goals for our learning this term. The Goal Areas are Academic (Reading, Writing, Maths etc), Social (being a good friend, manners, behaviour etc.), Physical (Sports, Athletics), and Personal (attitude, something at home etc.).

For each goal you need to make sure you have written when you are going to achieve it and how you are going to achieve it?

Digi-Awards Rubric for Music Videos

Here are two rubrics that your music video will be judged on.  You have already done a fantastic job – I was so impressed by the way you worked last week.  There were some ups and downs but overall, you completed your task and now you are in the editing stage.  Have a look at these rubrics anyway and see if you can challenge yourself to improve your music video when editing.

Student Led Conferences

A big thanks to all of you who came in to share the positive learning that your children are completing at school.  I think there was a huge improvement in all SLC’s as the children were confident in articulating their learning.  Each learning conference was different, and you all showed your individuality so well done – I am very proud of you!

We are becoming more confident using Web2.0 tools and edublogs to share our learning and also we have more access to computers or devices than ever before.  This means that we have been uploading a mixture of finished and unfinished, drafted and published work and as a result, not all work is perfect.  However, children should be encouraged to re-read their work, so that it makes sense and has their best attempts at spelling words.

Please contact me if there are any queries.  Thanks again for being part another successful SLC.

Welcome to week 11 team!  Well done to all of you for making really good choices leading up the end of term – I have been really impressed by the way so many of you are managing your learning – so keep it up the holidays are near and there is still plenty to do!

Inquiry sample: make sure your words are ready and you have practiced singing your parody along with the song – I will record you in the office.  The finished parodies are AMAZING!  You should all be very proud of yourselves :)

End of Term Reflection: read your Term 2 Goals, read through your ePortfolio, read through the class blog – Then write: Guess What, What, So What, Now What.

Work hard so we can enjoy watching a movie this Friday!

Our Class Treaty

Over the past week and a half, we have been learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and we thought we’d have a go at making a treaty for the class.  We first had a ‘Think, Pair, Share’ and recorded all of the things that we believed made a class awesome.

I then typed up our rules onto a Comic Life doc, printed it out, then it was time for some fun!

Saffron and Amy then put tea all over the paper to make it look old and we waited for it to dry.  Today we signed our treaty and put it up on the wall.  It looks amazing and we all helped to make it.  Here we are signing the promises we made to each other and ourselves:

Day One

Any NZ metal fans will recognise Day One as a way cool band (though now seperated) from Auckland. Like the band, our day was ‘way cool’. We didn’t waste any time getting into our ePortfolios and writing our term goals. I was very impressed with the rigor of language the children used to set themselves goals.
