A portfolio 2012 page

Hi this is Aaliyah typing to show you what NIN has been doing. Room9 has been doing a portfolio page so I thought that I could show you an example of what kind we used.  Room9 went onto photofunia to pick what title pages we wanted to do and i had picked that I was ‘wanted’ and if you can see my name that would be the picture of me. Thanks for looking at the example I had used. : )

SMART Goals

We are learning to write SMART goals for our learning this term. The Goal Areas are Academic (Reading, Writing, Maths etc), Social (being a good friend, manners, behaviour etc.), Physical (Sports, Athletics), and Personal (attitude, something at home etc.).

For each goal you need to make sure you have written when you are going to achieve it and how you are going to achieve it?

SLC Review Sheet

Your “at home” Student Led Conference is coming up soon so you will need to make sure you are prepared. I recommend you formally “book in time” with your parents and set aside 20 – 30 minutes one day/afternoon/night to share your learning with them. You now have had two SLC’s and from what I have seen, you are all more than capable of sharing your learning confidently! You might like to go to a cafe or the library to look at your ePortfolio?   Or get takeaway coffee for mum and a hot chocolate for you?  But the important thing is to relax, have fun and your parents will enjoy sharing your learning with you.

You should be able to copy and paste the below document into your ePortfolio so I can read about how your at home SLC went.  You might like to add a photo too?  It is a requirement to document the occasion.

Your ePortfolio should have a range of posts.  Some will be weekly reflections, some fun or high interest posts and also “ePortfolio samples” or posts.  I have tried to get most of you to put an “ePortfolio” category on your ePortfolio posts so they are easy to find.  Your SLC should mostly talk about these samples.

The ePortfolio samples to share with parents this term are

  • Writing: Creative Snow Stories
  • Maths: Problem Solving Keynotes
  • Reading: Group Individual Reading Activities
  • Inquiry: Music Video Key Competency Self Reflection
  • Production Self Reflection
  • Visual Art: Tropical Fish Art
  • Handwriting: T3′s Handwriting

Share with your parents:

  • what you were learning to do or what you were trying to get better at.
  • what you were good at or what criteria you achieved.
  • what you enjoyed.
  • what was hard or difficult.
  • what you could complete independently or with teacher help.
  • what you need to focus on next time you undergo similar learning.

Try not to just read your ePortfolio!  Summarise it, put it in your own words!

Reading Samples

This week we are completing our reading samples. This term we are in 3 mixed reading groups and we have been completing different mini inquiries. Here is Sophie’s Reading Sample. She is in Group 3.

WALT:We are learning to put our feet into other people’s shoes and think what there thinking.

We had to…

-Read a story

-We had to get a sheet of paper.

-Then we had to choose three characters out of the story.

Then we had to write on the sheet of paper 1 situation. My situation is that  there is a debate  that some scientists want to drill a hole in Antarctica and some don’t.

- Then we had to write about what  people, animals and scientists and think what they were thinking.

-Then we had to write about  what the three characters  are thinking.

Heres a photo of it.

  • The question is challenging but not too challenging,
  • The question makes sense and spelling is correct
  •  You have to know the answer
  • The question is solvable
  • Make it fun!
  • Ask someone to check your work – does it make sense?
  • Add title/pictures/etc.
